Cinema Odeon (M. Cerrai, Comune di Pisa)On 6 December 1946, the Odeon cinema was inaugurated. The Second World War was just over and the cinema became one of the Pisans' favourite places. The first film shown was William Wyler's 'Mrs. Miniver' (1942), but the most successful film, which was one of the first to be shot in colour, was 'For Whom the bellTolls' by Sam Wood (1943) based on a novel by Hemingway, and screened in 1947. During the interval a vendor of peanuts and liquorice strings came out... they called him the 'Scarababau' and he could be heard arriving, also in the village fairs, with his call 'children cry, so mom will buy it for you!'
