In 2014, the Pisa Food & Wine Festival has reached its third edition. This journey through local flavours and tastes provides visitors with an itinerary which, from the Pisan Hills to Cecina Valley, serves as a guidance to discover not only wonderful pasta dishes but also enticing cakes, cold cuts, cheese varieties, wine and olive oil assortments, sauces and alcoholic beverages.
The event was set up by Pisa Chamber of Commerce and, supported by institutions such as Consorzio Toscana Sapori, Istituto Matteotti and various Trade Associations, has received the patronage of Pisa Municipality. This endeavour aims actually at creating a bridge between local producers and restaurateurs on the one hand and enthusiasts or ordinary consumers on the other. Its role in the context of food and wine promotion in Tuscany has to be seen as that of a real “Mediterranean-diet-oriented” showcase to advertise agricultural food products from the Pisan area distributed through short supply chains.
The fair will actually involve over 35 producers from the Pisan area, who will be devoting three days to showcasing their typical products and making them available for visitors to taste. At the same time, 8 restaurants will only serve dishes made with zero-kilometre products.
As an extra-appetiser, the novelty of this year is represented by brand-new Taste Education Workshops – with particular focus on children’s need for entertainment. Free entrance.
