This year's ninth edition of the Scuola Normale film festival – in collaboration with the Cineclub Arsenale and sponsored by the Municipality of Pisa – focuses on the theme of revolution, understood as both a political and social transformation and a disruption of the balance, conventions, and cinematic languages themselves.
Five different films, united by the ability to look to the past and the future and question the present through cinema, sometimes with satire and irony, sometimes with dystopia, sometimes through the force of social reality, up to the radical experimentation of a work that helped change cinematic language forever, Battleship Potemkin.
Each screening will be introduced by scholars and scholars who will offer their key to understanding the upcoming film.
The festival aims to pay homage to Marjane Satrapi, an Iranian-born French artist who passed away on June 4th. It will open with a screening –in collaboration with the Cineteca di Bologna– of her restored masterpiece, Persepolis. The feature film is based on the autobiographical comic novel of the same name, and directed together with Vincent Paronnaud, who will be present for the occasion.

All the initiatives, free admission and free of charge, will begin at 9:00 pm and will take place in Piazza dei Cavalieri.
