From Sunday, October 4th, 2026, to Sunday, November 29th, 2026, at 11 a.m., the Sunday in Jazz concert lessons return to the Palazzo Blu Auditorium: five events with Francesco Martinelli, supported by some of the most interesting interpreters of Italian jazz and promising young artists.
The meetings would revolve around 1926, the birth year of some of the musicians who, following very different paths, would contribute to profoundly transforming jazz. A year that thus becomes the starting point for exploring different experiences, languages, and seasons of jazz: from bebop to soul jazz, from the relationship with African roots to the birth of an Italian path, to the evolution of writing and the role of instruments.
In an alternation of words, images, and music, Martinelli, jazz historian, author, and teacher, will intertwine biographies, listening, images, documents, and social contexts, in dialogue with the live performances that will accompany and enrich the story.
The musical part is entrusted to Argena feat. Tony Cattano. Trombonist and composer Tony Cattano will be the musical guide of the meeting and will engage in a conversation with the young quartet consisting of Niccolò Monté Rizzi on trumpet, Ariel Tricomi on piano, Matisse Berg on double bass, and Gabriele Peretti on drums.
Free admission with booking on Eventbrite, available from the Tuesday before each appointment.
Sundays in Jazz is an initiative within Pisa Jazz, under the artistic direction of Francesco Mariotti and with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Tuscany Region, the Municipality of Pisa, the Pisa Foundation, and Pisamo.
