From 5 September to 26 September 2025, the Fortilizio della Cittadella host a major solo exhibition of works by Alfredo Catarsini.
"Il Novecento di Catarsini. Dalla macchia alla macchina" is the title of the travelling exhibition dedicated to the great master from Viareggio.
The retrospective has been made possible thanks to the Alfredo Catarsini 1899 Foundation with the support and patronage of the Tuscany Region and the Municipality of Pisa.
The inauguration will be attended by Filippo Bedini (Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Culture of the Municipality of Pisa), Elena Anna Rita Martinelli (President of the Catarsini Foundation), Cristina Acidini (President of the Academy of Drawing Arts in Florence) and art historians Rodolfo Bona and Lucia Mannini.
Open o visitors:
- Thursday and Friday from 4 pm to 7 pm;
- Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm;
The Torre Guelfa will also be open at the same times.
The exhibition is fully accessible to people with visual impairments: QR codes on the entrance banner and on the artwork labels allow visitors to listen to adapted descriptions in Italian and English. There is also an experiential workshop with a sculptural high relief inspired by one of the works on display for tactile exploration and information in Braille.
Free admission.
The conference "Alfredo Catarsini and the Tuscan presences at the Cremona prize" will be held on Friday 12 September at 6.00 pm at the same exhibition venue, in reference to the various artists who took part in only the three editions of the prestigious art prize, in which Catarsini participated in 1940 creating the canvas "The wheat of the Lucca reclamation". The meeting will be opened by President Martinelli, with speakers Alessandro Tosi (scientific director of the Graphics Museum of Palazzo Lanfranchi) and Rodolfo Bona (art historian and curator of the exhibition catalogue). The event is organized in collaboration with the Circolo Filippo Mazzei, free entry while places last.
