Corso Italia
Corso Italia is one of the principal streets in Pisa’s historic centre and one of the city’s most important shopping streets. It begins at Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, an important urban space near the railway station, and runs towards the heart of the city, reaching the area around Ponte di Mezzo.
Today, the street is lined with a lively mix of shops, businesses, cafés and other venues, while also preserving important traces of Pisa’s history. Corso Italia follows the route of the former Carraia di San Gilio, one of the main approaches to the medieval city. Along the way, visitors can see historic buildings and fine examples of architecture, including the fourteenth-century Church of San Domenico.
Together with Borgo Stretto, Corso Italia forms one of Pisa’s principal pedestrian and shopping routes. A walk along the street offers a glimpse of everyday city life while bringing together history, architecture and shopping, gradually leading towards the heart of Pisa and its characteristic Lungarni.
