On the occasion of the 2026 European Heritage Days on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September, the Ministry of Culture is proposing openings and initiatives to showcase its heritage.

Vivaldi, Piazzolla and Bach in the National Museums of Pisa!
On September 26 and 27, for the European Heritage Days, art and music meet in the rooms of the Royal Palace and the National Museum of San Matteo.
Concerts:

Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, in a contemporary reinterpretation by Max Richter, and Piazzolla's Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas, with the duo Ferracci and De Nitto.

Bach's famous Goldberg Variations, in Dmitry Sitkovetsky's string transcription, with the Cameristi del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

Library of the University of Pisa
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days 2026 on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September pv, dedicated to the theme "Protecting Heritage. Renew, resist and reinvent", the University Library of Pisa proposes “The sounds of culture”.
The events will take place from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Library's branch office in Piazza San Matteo in Soarta, 2.
On Saturday the 26th, Dr. Silvia Di Giovanna, one of the contributors to the census of ancient printed works in Hebrew called "I-Tal-Ya Books," will present the results, with particular reference to the editions owned by the University Library of Pisa. The project digitally collects and catalogues Jewish books held in Italian libraries, making an often hidden heritage visible online. A journey through the traces of a multi-millennial history, preserved in the pages of his books.
At the end of the day, there will be a musical and singing performance to the tune of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco's "Divan of Moses-Ibn-Ezra, op. 207", performed by soprano Eleonora Pirondi, accompanied by Veronica Barsotti's guitar.
On Sunday the 27th, a project already presented in June 2026 as part of the international fair "We Make Future" in Bologna will be presented in the Library spaces.
The project was born with the aim of offering a different and engaging way of approaching the book heritage through a sensory experience based on listening. The sounds of the book and paper, along with those produced during some conservation and restoration activities, were recorded and collected in a podcast, creating a sonic journey capable of telling the story of heritage through an unusual perspective.
The proposal is part of the theme of the European Heritage Days, placing at the center the concept of heritage protection, understood not only as conservation and material protection, but also as the ability to renew and reinvent its methods of knowledge and enjoyment. During the GEPs, the podcast will be made available to the public within the Library, offering visitors the opportunity to explore the library's sonic heritage and learn, through its sounds, about some of the gestures and professional activities that contribute daily to its preservation and transmission.

Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the provinces of Pisa and Livorno
More than twenty years after the major exhibition on Pisa and the Mediterranean, the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the provinces of Pisa and Livorno and the Department of Civilizations and Forms of Knowledge are organizing the International Conference "A City Between Rivers and Sea." New research in Pisa between the Etruscan era and the early Roman age, aimed at presenting the most recent discoveries and new studies that have defined and expanded the framework of knowledge on one of the most relevant metropolises of northern Etruria.
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days on September 26 and 27, 2026, the event, open to scholars and citizens, will be hosted at the Auditorium delle Antiche Navi - Centro Studi in Pisa, the new center dedicated to the research, conservation, and enhancement of the archaeological heritage of the Pisa and Livorno areas. The event will run from Saturday the 26th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday the 27th from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm.
In conjunction with the Conference, in the Auditorium's exhibition area it will be possible to visit an exhibition of artifacts from some contexts investigated in recent years.
