PROGRAMME
The ride sets off from Pisa, more specifically from Giardino Scotto, the heart of the Terre di Pisa Bike Days, at 11.00 am.
The route gradually leaves the city behind, following back roads, cycle paths and stretches of dirt track.
Once past Pontedera, the birthplace of the legendary Vespa, we’ll head into the heart of the hills towards the star of the day: Monte Serra, which overlooks the Pisa plain. We’ll reach it by cycling through rolling green hills, along roads that smell of Tuscany, until we arrive at a special stop in Vicopisano, a land of excellent olive oil and living tradition, where our first gourmet stop awaits us at one of the region’s most highly regarded oil mills.
Then comes the challenge: the climb up Monte Verruca. A picturesque climb that winds its way for 7 km, with spectacular views of Pisa and the sea.
We start on tarmac, then the road turns to gravel: nature, exertion, silence and beauty.
After a well-deserved panoramic break, we’ll descend on a dirt track towards Calci before returning to Pisa along low-lying roads and the picturesque route of the ancient aqueduct, until we reach the city.
But the day doesn’t end there. We’ll take the Trammino cycle path and let our pedalling carry us straight to the sea, for a surprising finale on the beach with an aperitif: the best way to celebrate a day lived to the full, amidst cycling, the local area and shared experiences.
