An event open to the public, followed by the opportunity to visit the House-Museum of Blessed Giuseppe Toniolo free of charge: this is the programme for the event organised by the Fondazione Opera Giuseppe Toniolo on Friday 4 September 2026, at 6.00 pm, in the Foundation’s garden at Piazza Toniolo 4 in Pisa.
The event, which returns this year on the day the Church commemorates Toniolo, is dedicated to the figure and legacy of one of the most significant figures in Italian Catholic social thought: an economist and sociologist, and a lecturer at the University of Pisa, Toniolo left behind an original body of thought on the relationships between the economy, society, work and human dignity, which continues to offer highly relevant insights into the transformations of contemporary society.
Contributing to the discussion will be the Archbishop of Pisa, Fr. Saverio Cannistrà, together with the president of the Foundation, Andrea Maestrelli, and the priests Enrico Giovacchini and Lorenzo Correnti, who will offer testimonies and talks on the significance that this thought can still hold today.
Following the talks, there will be a social gathering in the Foundation’s garden. To round off the afternoon, visitors will be able to take a free guided tour of the House Museum of Blessed Giuseppe Toniolo – an opportunity to explore first-hand the places linked to his personal and intellectual life, in the spaces where he lived from 1879 until his death in 1918.
The event is also intended as a way of strengthening the bond between the Foundation and the city. The event is open to everyone and is free of charge.
