
Pisa is preparing to welcome stage no. 10 of the next Giro d'Italia in the best possible way, the Lucca-Pisa time trial scheduled for Tuesday 20 May. The organising committee is being set up, as well as the calendar of events that from 29 January will precede the day of 20 May.

THE TASTE TOUR
On the opening days of the Bike Arena, from 7 to 9 p.m., selected local producers will present their gastronomic excellences, offering tastings and tales of tradition to the public. Each appointment will be accompanied by a glass of Materia, IGT rosé, produced by Tenuta La Macchia di Montescudaio, proposed in a special limited edition label dedicated to the Pisan stage of the Giro d'Italia, to enhance and complete the tasting experience. The Giro del Gusto will be an opportunity for cycling and good food enthusiasts to talk and meet, sharing stories of flavours and sport in an informal and welcoming atmosphere.
From Monday 12 May to Tuesday 20 May San Rossore Dental will distribute free special edition toothbrushes for the Giro d'Italia.
The programme will open on Monday 12 May with Caseificio Busti di Acciaiolo, guardian of a long dairy tradition and known for its artisan pecorino cheese since 1955. The following evening, Tuesday 13 May, the protagonist will be the Panificio Fratelli Borelli di Pisa, a historic Pisan bakery, which will propose a selection of its best artisan specialities. Wednesday 14 May will be the turn of Toscana in Tavola of Castellina Marittima, which will present specialities made according to traditional Tuscan recipes and with ingredients from organic farming, while Thursday 15 May will be the turn of Arcenni Tuscany of Capannoli, a helicopter farm that takes care of the entire snail chain, proposing pates, sauces, and other specialities with an authentic flavour. Saturday 17 May will see the Bike Arena Savitar of San Miniato, a historic reality, a modern interpreter of the ancient local truffle tradition; while Sunday 18 May will be dedicated to the cured meats of La Bottega del Parco of Pisa, including the famous pine nut mortadella, symbol of a gastronomic craftsmanship that tells of the territory. Grand finale on Monday 19 May with Pastificio Artigianale Martelli di Lari, one of the smallest in Italy and proud custodian of traditional pasta-making methods since 1926.

Wednesday 29 January, 100 days before the Giro, meanwhile, an evening is planned in Piazza Duomo with the extraordinary illumination in pink of the Tower at 7 pm. Champions Paolo Bettini and Fabiana Luperini will be present. In the square from 4.30 p.m. also 100 spinning athletes from all over Italy will precede the official lighting ceremony of the Tower.

To welcome the Giro d'Italia in the best possible way, the Municipality of Pisa also intends to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first passage, which took place in 1925, and all the times that the runners of the most popular race have passed through the city. For this reason, a photo contest will be launched in the next few days, aimed at those who keep images and memories of a passage of the Giro in Pisa in their archives or photo albums. Anyone can participate by sending in their shots. The photographs collected will thus contribute to compose the story in images of ‘100 years of passion. Pisa and the Giro d'Italia'. Eleven years after the last edition, the Strapazzata, a non-competitive race with two recreational-motor routes of 5 and 10 km, will return to Pisa on 25 April 2025. Palazzo Blu celebrates the return of the Giro d'Italia in Pisa after 45 years with a photographic exhibition. The first time of the Giro d'Italia in Pisa is exactly a century ago, in 1925. The retrospective can be visited free of charge from 16 to 25 May 2025.
The route in the city.Meanwhile it has been defined the route that will make cyclists once in the city: viale condotti, via Calcesana, via Volpi-Largo Monasterio, via Garibaldi, via Santa Marta. Then first crossing of the Arno to the Ponte della Fortezza, then Lungarno Galilei and second crossing of the Arno to the Ponte di Mezzo. From there the runners will cross Lungarno Pacinotti, then via Santa Maria to arrive in piazza del Duomo.
