Thursday, June 14, the season of the Arsenal Cinema closes the English master Michael Nyman, one of the greatest living composers, as well as one of the undisputed masters of minimalist music.
Among his most memorable soundtracks are the mysteries of the garden of Compton House by Peter Greenaway and Wonderland by Michael Winterbottom.
It starts at 18.30 with the screening of Piano Lessons by Jane Campion, whose soundtrack is Nyman's masterpiece, while at 9.00pm the musician will be the protagonist of a meeting, conducted by the musicologist Carlo Boccadoro, in which he will talk about the link between music and cinema.
This will be followed by the screening of War work - 8 songs with film, a work of art and a war documentary directed at the same time by the same musician, in which eight of his songs accompany archival images from the Great War.
