Promoting less practised disciplines and, more generally, sport as a vehicle for inclusion, socialisation and the development of a person's psychophysical wellbeing also through its enhancement in cultural venues such as the theatre. This is the aim of the theatre play 'Batti e corri', produced by Binario Vivo and Italia sul Podio.

The play, which received among others the patronage of the Municipality of Pisa, will make its national premiere on Sunday 10 December at 9 p.m. at the Teatro Nuovo in Pisa, and will accompany the Softball World Cup to be played in Italy, in Friuli Venezia Giulia, in July 2024.

The show, based on an idea by Enrico Ghizolfi, written and directed by Riccardo Monopoli and supported by the Italian Baseball Softball Federation, will be staged by performers Andrea Fiorentini, Silvia Lazzeri, Andrea Console, Francesco Pelosini, Massimo Risi, Alice Fiumalbi and Chiara Claudi. The show is dedicated to the memory of Franco Grappolini and Enrico Obletter, baseball and softball coaches respectively.

The play. 'Hit and run' starts with a misunderstanding. By mistake, two games have been called onto the diamond at the same time on the same day: one baseball and one softball. The situation unravels as the athletes arrive on the playing field full of hopes, dreams, tensions and certainties. Small discussions arise, stories emerge about both sports and their differences and similarities. The initial misunderstanding will open the door to a more articulated reflection on the history of the technical gestures of 'hit and run', but above all on the spirit that animates the players and the values of brotherhood, sisterhood and integration that bind the teams. The show, partly inspired by the book "Here and now, sisters" Collana Italia sul Podio, aims above all to entertain, but with the dialogues, music, choreography and actors also intending to make a contribution to the knowledge and dissemination of the epic world of "beat and run".
