From Friday, December 26, 2025 to Sunday, May 10, 2026, the Republican Arsenals will host the exhibition "Ligabue. The roar of the soul".

The exhibition will offer the public a valuable opportunity to rediscover the expressive power and the inner world of an artist who has been able to speak with a unique and universal voice. The exhibition will tell the human and creative parable of Ligabue, highlighting its extraordinary proximity to the great protagonists of European Expressionism.

Produced by ARTIKA by Daniel Buso and Elena Zannoni, under the patronage of the City of Pisa and the Augusto Agosta Tota Foundation for Antonio Ligabue and curated by Mario Alessandro Fiori, general secretary of the Foundation, together with the Artistic Direction of Beside Arts, the exhibition will tell with more than 80 works the life, the psyche and the tormented history of this fascinating artist.

For Antonio Ligabue, art has always represented a deep and instinctive need, a way to face the difficulties and torments of life. This urgent need for expression is reflected in the visual power of his works, which are still capable of touching and moving the soul of the spectator. The exhibition will celebrate the path of this visionary genius in continuous evolution, highlighting his incessant artistic research, characterized by a bold use of color - violent but harmonious - and an intense emotional force. His iconographic language, at the same time popular and sophisticated, takes shape in paintings of great impact.

The exhibition will take the visitor through the fundamental stages of Ligabue’s life and artistic activity, revealing some of his most emblematic works. Among these stand out the famous self-portraits and his iconic depictions of ferocious animals: majestic tigers, leopards, raptors in action or engaged in struggles for survival, and imposing lions. An immersive journey through a harsh and magnetic jungle, which strongly expresses the visual and symbolic intensity of the artist’s inner world.
