The appointment (also present Andrea Maestrelli and Marek Inglot, president of the Pontifical Committee of Historical Sciences) is a unique opportunity to listen to an authoritative voice, able to illuminate a rich and complex theme, sometimes the subject of reductive or partial readings. An opportunity for believers and non-believers to rediscover the Jubilee not only as an ecclesial event and moment of faith, but also as a historical and cultural phenomenon of great importance.
What does it mean today to speak of "indulgence"? What is the profound, historical and theological meaning of this word that has accompanied the experience of the Jubilee for centuries? Fr. Rocco Ronzani, Prefect of the Vatican Apostolic Archives, will try to answer these questions with his intervention "The Jubilee as indulgence" promoted in the context of the review The Words of the Jubilee, organized by the Opera della Primaziale in collaboration with the Pontifical Committee for Historical Sciences, the Vatican body committed to promoting dialogue between the Church and the scientific community on the level of historical research. Rocco Ronzani since July 2024 holds the post of Prefect of the Vatican Apostolic Archives (until recently Vatican Secret Archive) where documents and records are kept that tell centuries of history of the papacy and the activity of the Holy See.
The lectures will continue periodically until December.
