
Now in its 11th edition, Fumetti & Popcorn, the festival that explores the link between cinema and comics, and brings the public to discover the most interesting new developments on the Italian comics scene. Directed by Alessandra Ioalè, and as always dedicated to the memory of the cartoonist Tuono Pettinato, the project will take place in Pisa from April to November 2025 at the Cineclub Arsenale, and will develop through tributes, screenings, copy-signings, masterclasses and meetings with masters and young talents of the seventh and ninth art, all with free admission.

The illustration for this edition's poster is by the author, illustrator and graphic designer Lorenza Natarella, who will open the festival on Thursday 17 April at 7 p.m. by presenting her graphic novel “Sempre libera”, followed by the screening of Pablo Larrain's “Maria”, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the career of a great music legend, Maria Callas.
There will be three appointments in May: a tribute to Italo Calvino 40 years after his death, through the presentation of two comic strips taken from two of the writer's masterpieces, ‘Il visconte dimezzato’ by Lorenza Natarella and ‘Il Cavaliere inesistente’ by Sualzo, and a screening of the film ‘Il Cavaliere inesistente’ by Pino Zac in a restored version; There will then be a discussion on workers' rights between comics and cinema through the presentation of the graphic novel ‘Nemici del popolo’ (Enemies of the People) by Emiliano Pagani and Vincenzo Bizzarri, and the screening of the masterpiece ‘La classe operaia va in Paradiso’ (The Working Class Goes to Paradise). The event will continue with an event celebrating the 250th anniversary of the birth of the writer Jane Austen, through the presentation of the graphic novel ‘Jane Austen’ by Manuela Santoni and the screening of ‘Pride and Prejudice’, on the occasion of the film's 30th anniversary.
In June, as usual, the exhibition will once again collaborate with the “Giorni di Tuono” (Days of Thunder) Festival with two events, one dedicated to satire in comics, ten years after the attack on the “Charlie Hebdo” editorial office, and one dedicated to the relationship between contemporary art and comics, both in the presence of numerous illustrious guests of the ninth art.
In July, ‘Aperitifs with Italian Comics’ will be held at the Giardino La Nunziatina in Pisa, during which the most important new developments in the Italian comics scene will be presented, and between September and November, ‘Comics & Popcorn Kids’, the cycle of events held on Sunday mornings dedicated to children aged between 6 and 10, with 4 creative workshops on comics held by comic book artists and illustrators of works for children, followed by screenings of themed films.
The 2025 edition of Fumetti & Popcorn is realised with the contribution of the Fondazione Pisa and UniCoopFirenze, in collaboration with the Department of Civilisation and Forms of Knowledge of the University of Pisa, the Tuono Pettinato Foundation and Libreria Ghibellina.
