Starting November 24, the SMS Biblio Municipal Library will host the photography exhibition “Chad from dawn to dusk”. The exhibition, sponsored by the Municipality of Pisa, presents the reportage produced in Chad in February 2025 by Giovanni Frescura, curator of the exhibition, together with colleagues Luigi Carreri and Roberto Marcon on behalf of GIZ – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit.

The exhibition, set up on the first floor of the library and open free of charge until November 30, will be open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. The exhibition offers an in-depth look at the theme of transhumance, documented as part of the PETRA Project, developed under the aegis of UNESCO and the European Union.

Through 27 large-format shots chronicling daily life in the Lake Chad regions, the visitor is guided on a visual journey into transhumance, the traditional seasonal movement of herders and their herds. An essential system for the country's economy and food security, today threatened by climate change, the expansion of cultivated land, and population growth, factors that increase competition for natural resources and fuel new social tensions.

The reportage, produced in particularly difficult logistical and environmental conditions, provides a valuable testimony to a little-known reality rich in humanity. The exhibition aims to offer an authentic and stereotype-free narrative, made up of spontaneous encounters, everyday gestures, and landscapes shaped by climate and time.

The exhibition has already been presented at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa and will subsequently be hosted at several international events, including Frankfurt and Brussels.
