The 71st edition of the Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics is approaching, which will be hosted in Pisa next Tuesday, June 2nd, Republic Day. Exactly 70 years ago, the first edition of the historic event took place in Pisa, in the presence of the then President of the Republic, Giovanni Gronchi. The event will be broadcast live on Rai channels.

The event, which enjoys the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, includes the traditional rowing challenge on the Arno of the four cities-Amalfi, Genoa, Pisa, and Venice-over a distance of two thousand meters, with the men's and women's regatta taking place. The event is preceded, as usual, by the historical procession of the four Republics, with hundreds of participants parading along the Lungarni, recalling significant moments and figures from the history of the four cities.

Among the events scheduled for the week preceding the event is the opening to the public of the new exhibition of the permanent exhibition of the traditions of Pisa's history and identity in Palazzo Gambacorti (Saturday, May 30).
