Ludoteca Scientifica

The Ludoteca Scientifica is an interactive educational exhibition where visitors can discover science through play, hands-on experiences and experimentation. Located within the Cittadella Galileiana, it is part of the University Museum System of the University of Pisa and was created to introduce children, young people and adults to scientific culture through a simple, engaging and interactive approach.

The Ludoteca draws directly on the experimental method of Galileo Galilei: observing phenomena, formulating hypotheses and testing them through experience. The exhibition features a collection of games and interactive apparatus that allow visitors to explore first-hand some of the fundamental phenomena of physics and the natural sciences.

The activities cover subjects including mechanics, magnetism, electricity, optics and gravity, with science educators on hand to guide visitors as they investigate the different phenomena. The visit becomes a hands-on laboratory in which learning takes place through observation and experimentation.

Alongside the interactive exhibition, the Ludoteca offers educational workshops for different age groups, activities devoted to astronomy and opportunities to observe the night sky through telescopes.

Established in 2002, the Ludoteca Scientifica has developed over the years into an important centre for science communication, while maintaining strong links with Pisa’s long tradition of scientific research and teaching. Today, it is a place where science, play and experimentation come together, offering an engaging experience for families, school groups and anyone curious to discover science through direct experience.
