Infected by 'fattoritis', or rather the love of Giovanni Fattori's prints from which historian and collector Sebastiano Timpanaro ironically claimed to suffer, and inspired by the etchings currently on display in the exhibition 'Oltre la macchia. Engravings by Giovanni Fattori', we came up with the idea of a nativity scene inspired by the works of the great Leghorn artist.

The set-up, located in the intimate setting on the ground floor of Palazzo Lanfranchi, stages an evocative reinterpretation of some of Fattori's characters who, masterfully interpreted by the artist Lorenzo Possenti, are the protagonists of an original Christmas crib. Specifically, the figures of the Tuscan Peasant Woman for the Madonna, the Buttero for St. Joseph, the Pio bove for the ox, and the Somarello al sole for the donkey have been reproduced.

The project was realised in collaboration with the Verdi Theatre of Pisa, which completed the installation by suggesting the musical commentary.

A crib by Fattori is part of the initiatives around the exhibitions "I Macchiaioli" at Palazzo Blu, "Oltre la macchia. Incisioni di Giovanni Fattori" at the Museo della Grafica and "L'Ultimo ritratto di Mazzini" at the Domus Mazziniana, which, on the Lungarni and in the centre of Pisa, offer a fascinating journey through the art, culture and society of 19th century Italy.

Monday 19 December, 6 p.m.

For the occasion, the Museum will be extraordinarily open on Monday 19 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
