Comics and Popcorn, the event that explores the marriage between comics and cinema through tributes, screenings, presentations and meetings with great masters and young talents, is back with a new and rich edition. The event directed by Alessandra Ioalè, realised by the Cineclub Arsenale and dedicated to the memory of the comic-strip artist Tuono Pettinato, will take place in Pisa from May to October 2023 in the indoor spaces of the Arsenale, and outdoors at the Giardino di Via La Nunziatina and the Parco delle Concette.
The event will be opened on Friday 19 May (7.30 p.m.) by the multi-award-winning master of animation Bruno Bozzetto, who will present his latest graphic novel Tugèin, created with Grégory Panaccione, at the Arsenal, and will introduce the screening of his debut film West and Soda, which has become a classic of international animation. Then there will be tributes to Bonvi, Walt Disney, the noir film Venere privata and the cult Viaggio a Tokyo, the focus on China and the relationship between man and machine in the age of A.I., the Aperitivi col fumetto italiano and the new Comics and Popcorn Kids section with creative workshops, presentations and screenings for boys and girls aged between 6 and 10.
More than 20 events, including meetings and screenings, and more than 15 guests are scheduled, including comic book artists Paolo Bacilieri, Tito Faraci, Caelpher, Eliana Albertini and Gero Arnone, Percy Bertolini, Lucia Biagi, Vincenzo Filosa, Francesco D'Isa, Massimo Giacon, Emiliano Pagani and Fabrizio Pluc Di Nicola, and numerous other figures linked to the ninth and seventh art, such as Sofia Bonvicini, Alberto Brambilla, Francesco Verso, Matteo Contin and Davide Barbafiera. The official poster is created by Eliana Albertini, a talent of Italian comics, winner of the Nuove Strade at the Micheluzzi Awards at the Napoli Comicon festival.
Comics and Popcorn is a project realised with the contribution of Fondazione Pisa and UniCoopFirenze, in collaboration with Fondazione Tuono Pettinato, Dipartimento di Informatica dell'Università di Pisa, Sistema Museale di Ateneo, Museo degli strumenti per il calcolo, Istituto Confucio di Pisa, Future Fiction, Internet Festival, La Nunziatina, Parco delle Concette and Libreria Ghibellina.
