Friday 12 August Mimmo 'Wild' Mollica

Saturday 13 August New Blues Machine

Blues weekend at the Nunziatina in Pisa. The Garden in the historical centre, a summer event space open also in August, responds to the hellish temperatures with two unmissable blues evenings, the 'devil's' music by definition.

Friday 12 August sees the arrival of Mimmo "Wild" Mollica, one of the best harmonica players and one of the fathers of the blues in Italy, also mentioned in the Encyclopaedia of the Blues published by Arcana Editrice, in an acoustic duo with Giacomo Vespignani, a guitarist and singer from Livorno with over 20 years of experience behind him. Since 2006, they have formed the Mimmo Mollica Band, which plays a series of 'Chicago Blues' tunes, with Sabina Dal Canto (on bass) and Mario Ginesi (on drums).

On the calendar for Saturday 13 August is the live performance of New Blues Machine, the brainchild of Marco Becchetti, historical guitarist of the old Blues Machine. He was Sarah Jane Morris' guitarist in Vis, voted one of the top 10 Italian rock bands of the 1980s. The band was later joined by Nuccio Pellegrino, harmonica player; Stefano Conti, bass player; and Moreno Bambini, drummer. The band's repertoire ranges from acoustic to electric blues, playing songs by musicians such as Muddy Waters, J. Cotton, E. Clapton, B.B. King.

Show starts: 8:30 p.m.
