Lungarni
Start date:
End date:

On Tuesday, 16 June, the eve of the city’s patron saint, San Ranieri, Pisa will once again celebrate the Luminara di San Ranieri, one of the main events of the Giugno Pisano festivities.

As every year, during the afternoon specially selected workers will begin lighting the lumini—small candles positioned on the biancherie installed along the façades of the palaces—which will illuminate the Lungarni, enhancing the architectural forms of the buildings with their glow and creating a unique and evocative atmosphere.

At dusk, with the public and private artificial lighting gradually switched off, the Lungarni will begin to immerse themselves in the magical evening of San Ranieri, while anticipation builds for the traditional fireworks display.

During the Luminara di San Ranieri, scheduled for Tuesday, June 16, 2026, temporary changes will be made to traffic and parking in the areas affected by the event and in surrounding areas, valid at different times of the day and until the safety and public evacuation requirements are met.

Derogations are also provided for vehicles serving persons with disabilities and for authorized means to support the activities of the fair, in accordance with the procedures established by the ordinance.

Changes to parking.

Regarding parking, from 12:00 on Tuesday, June 16, bans with forced removal will come into force in the main streets and squares in the city center affected by the access and exodus routes. The measures will particularly affect Via Santa Maria, Piazza Garibaldi, Piazza del Pozzetto, Borgo Stretto, Via Oberdan, Piazza Cairoli, Via Cavour, Piazza Mazzini, Piazza XX Settembre, Via di Banchi, Corso Italia, Piazza Saffi, and Piazza San Sepolcro. In areas identified as exodus routes, the parking of bicycles and scooters in dedicated racks will also be prohibited.

Parking restrictions will also be established in areas near bridges and spaces designated for the event's installations. The measures will affect Piazza Caduti di Cefalonia, near Ponte della Vittoria, as well as Piazza dei Cavalieri, Piazza Solferino, and Largo del Parlascio, where sales facilities and services related to the event will be located.

A parking ban with forced removal will be in place on the city's main embankments from 12:00 PM on Tuesday, June 16, until 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. The measure will affect Lungarno Simonelli, Lungarno Pacinotti, Lungarno Mediceo and Lungarno Buozzi on the north side of the Arno, as well as Lungarno Galilei, Lungarno Gambacorti, Lungarno Sonnino and Lungarno Fibonacci on the south side. Specific exemptions remain for authorized vehicles and vehicles serving people with disabilities in the areas identified by the ordinance.

To allow for the fireworks display, operational areas will also be reserved on Lungarno Galilei, near the Scalo dei Renaioli, where vehicles from the company responsible for the installation can park and the technical stations necessary for the performance will be cordoned off.

Citizens are encouraged to pay attention to temporary signs and on-site directions to facilitate the event and ensure traffic safety.
