On the occasion of the centenary of the relocation of Giovanni Pisano's pulpit inside the Cathedral, the Opera della Primaziale Pisana organized the exhibition "Giovanni Pisano. Memory of a Sculptor", edited by Donata Levi and Emanuele Pellegrini, open to visitors from December 13, 2025 to March 8, 2026.
The exhibition illustrates how the figure of one of the greatest sculptors has been passed down through the centuries. Casts, paintings, sculptures, engravings, photographs and drawings contribute to restoring the gaze of artists, scholars and visitors on his work.
The Cooperativa Impegno&Futuro organises guided tours of the exhibition, reserved ONLY FOR RESIDENTS OF THE PROVINCE OF PISA AND STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PISA (ID may be requested, so please bring identification documents).
- Each person can book for a maximum of 2 people.
- Admission is limited from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (7:00 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.);

Alongside the exhibition, the Opera della Primaziale Pisana is also offering a series of in-depth events: the first of these will take place on Wednesday 11 February 2026 at 5:00 pm, at the Auditorium G. Toniolo (Piazza Arcivescovado, Pisa) entitled “Attualità e inattualità di uno scultore. Giovanni Pisano nel Novecento” (The relevance and irrelevance of a sculptor. Giovanni Pisano in the 20th century). Speakers will include Flavio Fergonzi (Scuola Normale Superiore) and Giovanni Casini (University of Turin), while Donata Levi (Fondazione Memofonte), curator of the exhibition together with Emanuele Pellegrini, will introduce the proceedings. The conference will explore the relationship between Giovanni Pisano and important 20th-century artists: why did artists such as Henry Moore, Marino Marini and Lorenzo Viani engage with his language? What did they seek in his works? How can a medieval sculptor still be “relevant” to contemporary art?
The meeting on 11 February is open to the public without the need for reservations and responds to the Opera della Primaziale Pisana's intention to share the riches it preserves with the community, creating opportunities for dialogue between scholars, enthusiasts and citizens for greater awareness of the history and culture of their territory.
