Festival del viaggio 2022
Place:
Pisa
Start date:
End date:

The first Italian festival for those who love to travel returns from 22 to 25 September 2022 to Pisa, where it all began many years ago. In the city of the leaning tower, the Travel Festival will accompany tourists and residents to discover the beauties of the city. he festival, under the aegis of the Region of Tuscany, is supported by the Municipality of Pisa and in collaboration with Toscana Promozione Turistica.

A weekend in September to talk, listen and experience journeys far and near. The festival's base in Logge di Banchi will feature a vintage bazaar, a bookshop, a travel 'disco' and a radio lounge that will host famous artists and travellers and follow the many urban walks.

At the Royal Victoria Hotel on Thursday 22 September at 7 p.m., the photo exhibition 'WIKI LOVES MONUMENTS ITALIA - DAI VALORE ALLA BELLEZZA' (WIKI LOVES MONUMENTS ITALY - GIVE VALUE TO BEAUTY) will be inaugurated, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Wikimedia contest. The exhibition, which will remain open until 30 October, celebrates the ten editions of Wiki Loves Monuments in Italy. The world's largest photography contest, which invites all citizens to document cultural heritage by taking photographs to be published under a free licence. With the tenth edition, the number of monuments that can be photographed in Italy has risen to 17,263, thanks to the adhesion of 2,270 institutions or private citizens who guard them. Over 165,000 shots have been collected over the years. By publishing their photos on Wikimedia Commons, participants in the competition can share beauty with the rest of the world and help make known and protect monuments that are very often little known. The photos collected here are the winners of the ten Italian editions of Wiki Loves Monuments.

Among the most popular protagonists is the comedian Paolo Migone, who already took part in the Travel Festival years ago, telling of impossible journeys. This year, on Friday 23 September at 6.30 p.m. in the company of his colleague Francesca Censi, he will tell about his favourite trips and the sea, his lifelong friend. In the radio lounge of the Logge di Banchi on Saturday 24 September at 6.30 p.m., singer Karima will talk with Marco Masoni. From Sanremo to Burt Bacharach, Karima is one of the most evocative and distinctive Italian voices, capable of giving intense emotions to her listeners. At the festival she will also be promoting herself as a children's writer with her new book 'Il viaggio di Frida e Dario' (Frida and Dario's Journey), which recounts with drawings, words and also music a very special journey through fantastic worlds full of surprising protagonists, wise and precious guides who will accompany the two little friends on their self-discovery, in seven stages, according to the meditative model of the Chakras proper and typical of Yoga practice.

Ten years ago the writer Antonio Tabucchi died. Some of his friends and fellow citizens will read his travel stories, in a kind of nocturnal vigil intended to pay homage to the great writer, entering at midnight on his birthday. The reading will take place on Friday 23rd from 10.30 p.m. on the terrace of the Royal Victoria Hotel, with a full view of the historic city. The event will also be broadcast live on Facebook.

On Friday 23 September at 9 p.m., the Tuscany Bike Stories project that Il Festival del Viaggio realised for Toscana Promozione Turistica in 2022 will be presented: a new way of discovering three cities of art by bicycle through guided urban bike tours accompanied by testimonials. These are three mini-documentaries, realised with the post-production of RTV38, on as many bike itineraries in the urban centres of Florence, Pisa and Livorno, led by the festival director, Alessandro Agostinelli, and featuring Gaia Nanni in Florence, singers Petra Magoni and Frida Bollani in Pisa, and comedian Paolo Migone in Livorno. The presentation will be attended by the director of Toscana Promozione Turistica, Francesco Tapinassi.

Travellers Mario Maffi, Federico Formignani and Niccolò Rinaldi will also take part on Thursday 22 September at 9 p.m., and a tribute will be paid to Eugenio Scalfari's journalistic adventure on Saturday 24 September at 9 p.m.

Open to all is the "Raccontaci il tuo primo viaggio" ("Tell us about your first trip") contest, curated by Marzia Maestri, a couch for passers-by, residents and tourists in which everyone has 2 minutes to tell about their first trip. A book will be born from this project.

All the events and appointments of the Travel Festival are free of charge. Some (where indicated) are only accessible by e-mail reservation.
