One of the historical events of the Tuscan gastronomic panorama is certainly the Cherries Festival, which has been held in Lari (Pisa) since 1957. This year's edition, the 61st, will take place from 27 to 28 May and from June 2 to 4 .
The Festival is obviously dedicated to the Cherry of Lari, a very valuable native variety, cultivated throughout the territory of the ancient commune of Lari and in various other places nearby. Although there are 19 different qualities, there are a few common features to all of them: it is an intense red color, definitely sugary and has a great consistency.
The opportunity is also right for a visit to the village of Lari. The center, located on the road connecting Pisa with Volterra, was of great importance during the Florentine domination of the Medici, who had elevated it to the capital of the area of the Pisan Hills. Among other things, we recommend a visit to the Castle of Vicars, medieval and restored during the Renaissance. The Castle will be open for the duration of the event.
During the Festival you can enjoy and buy the exquisite Lari Cherries, along with the products they produce, such as jams, in the cherry market. Throughout the event, collateral events such as animation and live music are planned.
