From Saturday 14 February to Wednesday 25 February 2026, the GAMeC CentroArteModerna in Pisa (Lungarno Mediceo 26) will host the exhibition curated by Massimiliano Sbrana
"Costellazione Femminile" ("Female Constellation") a journey that traces the history of the gallery founded in the 1970s and its commitment to enhancing women's creativity. The exhibition is created in collaboration with the "Archivio d'Arte" Collection of the GAMeC.

The project is dedicated to the artists who, from the 1970s to the present, have contributed to building the gallery's identity, and was born from the desire to reinterpret a journey begun in the second half of the twentieth century, when GAMeC was taking its first steps in a rapidly changing cultural context. It is in that climate of renewal that the gallery began to define its dialogue with female creativity, a dialogue that over time has expanded and consolidated until it has become one of the distinctive elements of its history.

Since its founding, the Archive has recognized in women's artistic production an innovative drive capable of transforming languages, themes, and perspectives. At a time when the presence of women in the art system was still limited, the gallery chose to support research that intertwined body, memory, everyday life, politics, and visual experimentation. Over the decades, this attention has consolidated into a heritage now preserved and enhanced within the Archive.

"Female Constellation" connects different generations of female artists, showing how female creativity has been able to navigate cultural, social, and technological changes while maintaining its ability to interrogate the present. The works brought together in the exhibition testify to different individual paths, but united by a sensitivity capable of reading one's time and transforming it into visual language. The title recalls the image of a set of luminous presences: points that, when observed individually, reveal autonomous identities and poetics, but which in their proximity draw a broader map, made up of references, dialogues and unexpected connections. Like an ever-expanding constellation, the exhibition restores the richness of a plural perspective that spans decades and continues to generate new perspectives.

The project is part of the work carried out by Massimiliano Sbrana, curator of the exhibition and director-in-chief of the GAMeC Archive, who has led the gallery with commitment and continuity for years. His work is dedicated to the conservation, research, and valorization of a constantly growing heritage, in dialogue with contemporary art and, in particular, with the city of Pisa.
