The “Walking Cinema” events organized by Acquario della Memoria and Spazio Mumu are back.

What if the streets of Pisa became an open-air screen, capable of telling us the story of the city and its deep connection to the Arno?

To mark the 60th anniversary of the 1966 flood, an immersive journey will take place through archival images, old films, testimonies, news reports, music, and audio narratives to relive one of the most dramatic moments in Pisa’s history: the great flood of 1966 and its impact on the city.
A journey through cinema, memory, and the city’s landmarks, where we’ll walk along the Arno riverbanks accompanied by wireless headphones and video projections on the walls, stepping into true open-air films.

When: Friday, November 6, at 6.00 pm
Duration: 75 minutes (including a 25-minute walk)
Departure: Museo Nazionale di San Matteo (P.zza San Matteo in Sorta)
Arrival: Ponte Solferino (at approximately 7.15 pm)
Distance: 1,7 km
Route: from the National Museum of San Matteo, passing by the Ponte della Fortezza, the Scalo dei Renaioli, the Logge di Banchi, the Church of Santa Cristina, and the Church of the Spina, to the Solferino Bridge.
Cost: 12,00€

IN CASE OF BAD WEATHER, THE EVENT WILL BE CANCELED OR POSTPONED TO A DATE TO BE DETERMINED.

This is also an opportunity to rediscover the city’s postwar cultural renaissance through the historic 1946 exhibition that brought the value of medieval Pisan sculpture back into the international spotlight.

A project by Acquario della Memoria that weaves together cinema, theater, history, and cultural tourism, giving voice to the images and testimonies of the past to help us better understand our present.

The initiative is part of the ARNO 66/26 project, supported by the Region of Tuscany, and draws on the film archives of the Mosaico Pisa project as well as collections of Super 8 films and private amateur footage.
