The new May programme of guided tours in the National Museums of Pisa has arrived!

Also this month, a programme of guided tours to discover the extraordinary archaeological, historical-artistic, architectural, archival and book heritage belonging to the four National Museums of Pisa. 

The project to enhance the heritage of Pisa's National Museums is possible thanks to the Archaeology and Itinera Cooperatives

The visits to the Museum of Ancient Ships, the National Museum of San Matteo and the Royal Palace, which began last month with great success, are now joined by those to the Monumental Complex of the Charterhouse of Calci.

Guided tours are guaranteed every weekend, with no minimum number of participants required but a maximum number of 25.

Below is the programme.

MUSEUM OF ANCIENT SHIPS. A journey to discover the ancient ships and archaeological finds discovered during excavations in the Pisa San Rossore area, with a focus on the history of the city, navigation in antiquity and the conservation of the exhibits.

  • every Saturday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.; 
  • every Sunday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.;

NATIONAL MUSEUM OF SAN MATTEO. A journey through the works of artists from Pisa, Tuscany and elsewhere, and the major masters of the 15th century, including paintings, sculptures and sacred art objects, discovering the beauty and history of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, through iconography, artistic techniques and the materials used.

  • every Saturday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m;;

ROYAL PALACE NATIONAL MUSEUM. Discovering the Royal Palace and its precious artistic and
cultural heritage, a fascinating window on life at the grand ducal court and the historical evolution of the city, with a focus on portraiture, patronage and artistic techniques related to furnishings and tapestries.

  • every Saturday at 11 a.m.;

MONUMENTAL CHARTERHOUSE OF CALCI. Discover one of the most important examples of Tuscan Baroque architecture, a unique insight into monastic life, characterised by prayer, meditation and silence. The tour will also include access to the sacristy to admire the Calci Bible dated 1168, a cornerstone in the history of Italian miniatures.

  • every Saturday at 2.30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5.30 p.m.;
  • every Sunday at 9.30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12.30 p.m.;

COSTS. Guided tour €8.00 per person, €6.00 concessions from 6 to 12 years old, free under 6 years old + museum entrance ticket. 

ON THE FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH ADMISSION TO ALL NATIONAL MUSEUMS IS FREE, YOU ONLY PAY FOR THE GUIDED TOUR IF YOU WISH TO TAKE PART. 

IT IS POSSIBLE TO PURCHASE A CUMULATIVE TICKET FOR €14.00 FOR ENTRANCE TO ALL MUSEUMS, valid for 7 days.
