** IN UPDATE **
Saturday, May 17, 2025 is celebrated throughout Europe the European Night of Museums, a unique opportunity to visit places of culture in the evening. The initiative promoted by the French Ministry of Culture and sponsored by UNESCO, the Council of Europe and ICOM is taking place simultaneously throughout Europe with the aim of stimulating and promoting knowledge of national and European cultural heritage and identity.
As usual, the Night of Museums anticipates the International Day of Museums, on Sunday 18 May, promoted every year by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), now in its 20th edition.
Since 2020, ICOM has been promoting initiatives to support the 17 Sustainable Development Goals that were drawn up in 2015 by UN member countries and approved by the UN General Assembly. This year’s theme will be "The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities - "The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities": museums are invited to focus on how they can orient and contribute to a world that is undergoing profound social changes, technological and environmental. In particular, the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will be:
- Goal 8 | Decent work and economic growth: to foster lasting, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, decent work for all.
- Goal 9 | Industry, innovation and infrastructure: building resilient infrastructure and promoting innovation and fair, responsible and sustainable industrialisation.
- Goal 11 | Sustainable cities and communities: making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, durable and sustainable.
Also this year the University of Pisa’s Museum System participates in the initiatives with a rich program of events.
