A weekend to celebrate 8 September 1499, when the courage of the Pisans forced the Florentines led by Paolo Vitelli to retreat from the city. 

This year there are 3 events organized by the Municipality of Pisa:

FRIDAY 5 SEPTEMBER - 5.30 pm - BASTIONE SANGALLO

The presentation of the new edition of the book "History of the siege of Pisa" by Gino Benvenuti (Eclettica Edizioni) will be held in the splendid setting of the Scotto Garden.
The meeting will be introduced by the Councilor for Traditions of History and Identity of Pisa, the historian Manuel Rossi, Gianfranco Benvenuti (son of the author) and Renzo Ciangherotti, secretary of the Crossbowmen of Porta San Marco, will speak. 

SUNDAY 7 SEPTEMBER - BASTIONE STAMPACE 

At the Bastione Stampace (Largo Marinai d'Italia) both in the morning and in the afternoon Pisa will relive one of the most significant moments in its history.
in re-enactment, now in its fifth edition, it will offer the public a rich program: reconstruction of medieval camps, historical procession, falconry shows with performances of birds of prey by Falconeria Sunrise and the Palio dei Balestrieri. The event, organized by the historical group Balestrieri di Porta San Marco with the patronage of the Municipality of Pisa, will also be attended by the Compagnia dei Balestrieri di Lucca – in memory of the three hundred infantrymen from Lucca who defended the city – the Alfieri e Musici di Porta Pisana, the Compagnia dello Stile Pisano and the Archers and Armigers of the Compagnia del Leone Rampante. The event is part of the calendar of Historical Reenactments of the Tuscany Region and of the Alfeo Calendar of the Municipality of Pisa.

• 9.30 a.m. - Arrangement of camps
• noon - Affixing a laurel wreath to the walls by the City Authorities, with the presence of the City Banner and with Valletti in historical costume;
• 4.30 p.m. - Short historical procession from the Vecchi Macelli, Ponte della Cittadella, to Largo Marinai d'Italia with a stop at the Church of San Paolo in Ripa d'Arno for the solemn blessing to the participants;
• 5.30 p.m. - Palio dispute between the crossbowmen of the Compagnia Balestrieri of Lucca and the crossbowmen of Porta San Marco, within the Sostegno;
• 6 p.m. - Falconry show and flag games;
• 7 p.m. - Awards ceremony and victory celebrations;

MONDAY 8 SEPTEMBER - PALAZZO GAMBACORTI

Palazzo Gambacorti will be decorated as per the calendar of the city's historical anniversaries, so as to symbolically pay homage to a date, and with it to a whole short, but intense period, that of the so-called Second Republic, which has strongly marked the Pisan identity.
