On Wednesday, 29 October 2025, at 7:00 p.m., the exhibition ‘Città Teatro. Francesco Barbieri’ will open at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa.
Until 18 December, with free admission, the Ridotto del Teatro Verdi will host a selection of 30 works by the Pisan artist. With the Francesco Barbieri exhibition, the Verdi returns to an ancient vocation: art painting, which, in this form, has been absent since 1950 and the great exhibition dedicated to another eminent Pisan artist, Spartaco Carlini.
Curated by Manuel Rossi, the exhibition will be divided into four sections that recount, through the artist's personal interpretation, the relationship between urban centres and suburbs, with a particular focus on the city of Pisa.
The exhibition will feature a wide selection of works dedicated to the Teatro Verdi, the monumental Pisa of the Lungarni and Piazza dei Miracoli alongside the suburbs, the result of Barbieri's many travels around the world. Also on display will be previously unseen works inspired by another theme specific to Pisa: the Retoni. Finally, works created in the artistic workshop set up with Gianni Lucchesi, a highly regarded artist with whom Barbieri has a close relationship, will also be presented.
