On Wednesday 12 October, at 2.45 p.m., at the Botanical Museum of the University of Pisa, the exhibition "Portraits in the Botanical Garden, FLORA PICTA" will be inaugurated: an exhibition to celebrate the "Pisan School of Botanical Painting" with works by teacher Silvana Rava and her students, depicting plants of the Botanical Garden and mushrooms.

Professor Lucia Tongiorgi Tomasi (Accademia dei Lincei) and Professor Alessandro Tosi (Director of the Museo della Grafica) will speak.

Founded in 2010, the "School of Scientific-Botanical Illustration" is hosted at the Botanical Museum, formerly home to the 16th-century Botanical Painting Studio.

Since the very first meetings, the lessons have been held in harmony between artistic requirements and the scientific aims of promoting naturalistic culture, enriched by the interventions of Dr. Lucia Amadei, conservator of the Museum, in the field of Plant Biology and Systematic Botany.

The initiative has contributed to the rediscovery of an artistic genre that has its roots in the past and has brought back to its places of origin an ancient technique that has been fundamental in the study of Botany and Medicine, re-evaluating the irreplaceable value of copying from life, of observation and study in perfect balance between Art and Science.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 12 October to 12 December 2022 at the Botanical Museum.
