Our souls at night is the sixth title of the 2023/24 Prose Season of the Teatro Verdi, in collaboration with FTS - Fondazione Toscana Spettacolo, and marks the debut on the Pisan stage of Lella Costa and Elia Schilton.  The direction of Serena Sinigaglia brings to the stage, in the theatrical adaptation by Emanuele Aldrovandi, the sweet and courageous portrait of the third age that Kent Haruf tells in the homonymous novel (NN publisher). The scenes are by Andrea Belli and the costumes by Emanuela Dall'aglio; a production by Teatro Carcano in collaboration with Mismaonda.

The story

Addie and Louis, widowers and over-seventies, live alone a few meters away, have known each other for years, because Addie was good friends with Diane, Louis' long-missing wife. The two do not actually date, but something happens.

One day Addie makes a scandalous and direct proposal to his neighbor, which unsettles him.  Since her husband died, Addie has difficulty falling asleep on her own and invites Louis to come and sleep with her.

It is not an erotic proposal, but the desire to share again with someone that nocturnal intimacy made above all of chatting in the dark before giving in to sleep.  But society is not ready to give those who enter the third half of life a romantic dream. And the two protagonists have to choose between their freedom and regret.
