The Pisan medical school was born with the University of Pisa, whose origins date back to at least the eighth century, although the papal bull In supremae dignitatis by Clement VI, who formalized its recognition, is dated 1343. There first mentions of the medical school date back to the thirteenth century.
The Filippo Civinnini Museum of Human Anatomy was founded in 1832 and exhibits more than 3000 medical objects, including the Anatomical Tables by Paolo Mascagni. Of great interest are the archaeological collections, such as the Egyptian mummies from early nineteenth-century expeditions, anatomical models and preparations that were used by professors during lessons. Visit by appointment, calling 050 2211372 or writing to info.mau@sma.unipi.it (via Roma 55).

The Museum of Pathological Anatomy was founded in 1870 and exhibits pathological human and animal finds from the University's studies and collections. Of great interest are the exhibits from the Medici and Lorraine periods. (via Roma 57). Visit by appointment.
