The Orchestra di Fiati of the Filarmonica Pisana returns to the Banchi with the traditional concert for the Liberation Day from Nazism.
After two long years in which the restrictions for the pandemic have denied us the event, Monday 25 April at 18:30 the winds of the Philharmonic Society will resonate under the Loggias of Banchi and the 77th anniversary of Liberation will be celebrated live again in the historic location that always welcomes the concert at the end of the official celebrations.
The ensemble will perform pieces relating to the anniversary and current events, ending with the customary hymns and marches. The programme includes pieces by Prokofiev, Mussorgsky, Beethoven, Piovani, Piazzolla and Sparke.
The ceremony is dedicated this year to Giorgio Vecchiani, former president of Anpi Pisa, former provincial councillor and former municipal councillor in Pisa.
The programme of the day, organised by the Municipality of Pisa together with the Province of Pisa, the Prefecture and the Anpi section of Pisa, includes at 9.30 a.m. in Piazza Caduti di Cefalonia e Corfù the laying of a laurel wreath at the Acqui Division monument (organised by the Municipality of Pisa and the National Association Acqui Division Pisa); at 10. 00 in the Church of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria the Holy Mass and prayer at the chapel of the fallen with the laying of a wreath at the Chapel of the fallen (by the Prefecture of Pisa); at 11.15 am in Piazza XX Settembre the laying of a wreath at the headstone of the fallen (by the Municipality of Pisa and Provincial Committee of Anpi); and to follow (11.30 am) in Piazza XX Settembre the institutional ceremony for the celebration of the 77th anniversary of the Liberation. Speeches will be given by the mayor of Pisa Michele Conti, the prefect Maria Luisa D'Alessandro, the president of the province, Massimiliano Angori, and the provincial ANPI president Bruno Possenti. The programme will continue at 12 noon in Via del Carmine 10, with the unveiling of Alfredo Serani's memorial plaque.
