Event information

The event will be held in mixed mode and by booking due to restrictions in force.

Attendance in person is by reservation and subject to possession of a green pass. However, it will be possible to follow the event via live streaming.

Conceived a year after the death of Edda Bresciani, the world-famous Egyptologist who gave her name to the Collections, the exhibition has been organised in collaboration with OPA, Opera Primarziale Pisana, which has loaned the University three precious items from its collection of Egyptian antiquities.

The exhibition offers the opportunity to admire a selection of small, great masterpieces donated to the Opera della Primaziale Pisana by Gaetano Rosellini in 1830, upon his return from the famous "Franco-Tuscan Expedition to Egypt and Nubia" (1828-1829), led by his nephew Ippolito Rosellini together with J.F. Champollion, and in which Gaetano had participated as an engineer and architect.

The unprecedented juxtaposition of these artefacts with those of the Picozzi Collection, donated to the University of Pisa in 1962 by the heirs of Gaetano Rosellini, and on permanent display at the Egyptological Collections, thus makes it possible to bring together parts of a historical heritage that have long been separated.

On the occasion of the exhibition, the rooms of the small museum will have a new look thanks to new colours, new lighting and new display solutions, which will better frame the dialogue between the finds from the Opera della Primaziale Pisana collection and those from the permanent collections.

19 February also marks the reopening to the public of the Egyptological Collections, which have been closed since 11 January for fitting-out works.

On 19 February there will be two guided tours of the Egyptological Collections, with compulsory online booking, at 4pm and 5pm.
