At 11:30 a.m. guided tour 'Giunta Pisano, the painter of the Franciscans'.

In view of the feast of the patron saint of Italy, St Francis of Assisi, the museum offers a free guided tour dedicated to Giunta Pisano, one of the greatest painters of the 13th century. He is considered the artist who most linked his name and fame to the radical spirituality promoted in those same years by the saint, who died in 1226, and his followers. The accent placed on humanity and the more emotional participation in the sacred are interpreted by the artist with the invention of corresponding ways of representing closer to earthly experience. With him, the painted cross fully affirms the Christ patients, that is, suffering because he became man, a model taken up by Cimabue and then, with further innovations, by Giotto.

The cuspidate panel painting attributed to him depicting Francis and stories of his legend (detail), on display in the museum, from the church of St. Francis, was painted a few decades after Francis' canonisation in 1228.
