9.30 pm - The Madonna of the Merchants by Barnaba da Modena narrated by Prof. Marco Collareta.
The signed work is considered the masterpiece of Barnaba da Modena, an aristocratic artist active mainly in Piedmont and Genoa, called to Pisa in 1379 to fresco a wall in the Monumental Cemetery with the Stories of San Ranieri. The master never completed the commission, but it was perhaps on this occasion that the Guild of Merchants of Pisa commissioned the large panel, as the inscription on the frame attests (CIVES ET MERCATORES PISANI PRO SALUTE).

MUSEO NAZIONALE DI PALAZZO REALE, Lungarno Pacinotti, 46 - http://www.polomusealetoscana.beniculturali.it/index.php?it/202/pisa-museo-nazionale-di-palazzo-reale
