On the occasion of the International Day of Museums celebrated on 18 May, promoted by ICOM International Council of Museums) and the initiative 'Amico Museo, aria di primavera nei musei toscani' (Friend Museum, spring air in Tuscan museums), from 5 May to 4 June, Tuscan museums accept the invitation of the Region of Tuscany and open their doors with guided tours, presentations of works, exhibitions, workshops and animations.

Once again this year, the University of Pisa's University Museum System has organised various initiatives:

BOTANICAL GARDEN AND MUSEUM (Via Luca Ghini 13/Via Roma 56) 

- 18 May at 4 pm in Aula Savi: prize-giving ceremony for the Fi/oTO 2023 photo competition with free admission. The 12 photos with the most likes will be published in the Orto e Museo Botanico's 2024 calendar and will be the subject of an exhibition in the rooms of the Botanical Museum; 

- 20 May at 3 pm: "Saturday. Succulent blooms". A guided tour dedicated to the collections of the Botanical Garden and Museum to discover a unique heritage that changes with the seasons;

- 1 June, 9.15 p.m.: 'Piccole Luci nell'Orto' (Little Lights in the Garden), a night-time walk through the Botanical Garden's avenues illuminated by the glow of fireflies

- 16/23 and 27 May at 4.15 pm: free guided tours of the exhibition 'I colori dell'Anima. Giuseppe Viviani (1898-1965)';

 - 18 May at 6:30 pm: SU/PER VIVIANI. Notes to the exhibition 𝐼 𝑐𝑜𝑙𝑜𝑟𝑖 𝑑𝑒𝑙𝑙'𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑚𝑎. 𝐺𝑖𝑢𝑠𝑒𝑝𝑝𝑒 𝑉𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑖 (1898-1965), and musical interludes performed by Carlo Franceschi, clarinet, Marcello Leoni, clarinet, Alessandro Pucci, bassoon.

With the exhibition ticket 𝑰 𝒄𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒓𝒊 𝒅𝒆𝒍𝒍'𝑨𝒏𝒊𝒎𝒂. 𝑮𝒊𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒑𝒑𝒆 𝑽𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒊 (1898-1965)The Colours of the Soul. Giuseppe Viviani (1898-1965) it will be possible to attend the concert free of charge with a final toast.


- 20 May: free guided tours in three shifts (3.00 pm-3.30 pm-4.30 pm-5.30 pm), opening and closing the seminar The horse in the history of the city of Pisa, scheduled from 4.00 pm;

- 30 May at 5 p.m.: 'Putting on Exhibitions- Classical Art to the Test of the Future-Recycling Beauty'. Salvatore Settis will speak about the exhibition Recycling Beauty of which he was curator, together with Anna Anguissola and Denise La Monica.

MUSEUM OF CALCULATION INSTRUMENTS (Polo Le Benedettine-P.zza San Paolo a Ripa d'Arno 16)

- 18 May at 17:00 and 27 May at 16:30: free guided tours of the exhibition 'Hello World! Informatics from the arithmometer to the smartphone'.

SCIENTIFIC LUDOTECA and MUSEUM OF PHYSICS INSTRUMENTS (Via dei Macelli 2/b and Via Nicola Pisano 25, Largo Padre Renzo Spadoni)

- 18 May at 9 p.m.: seminar and astronomical observations on the theme "Italo Calvino. Il tempo profondo", how science intuited deep time and Calvino made literature out of it;

MUSEUM OF HUMAN ANATOMY (Medical School, Via Roma 55)

- 26 May at 4.30 p.m.: 'Gabriele Falloppio on the fifth centenary of his birth', a conference that will retrace the milestones of the career of the great anatomist who also taught in Pisa. After the lecture, there will be a guided tour of the museum;


- 20 May 4-5 p.m.: in collaboration with the Gipsoteca di Arte Antica and the seminar 'The horse in the history of Pisa', the connection between the birth of hippatry will be illustrated with the findings of the Museo Anatomico Veterinario and the development of horseracing with the history of the San Rossore hippodrome;


- 18 May at 4 p.m.: 'Disability in ancient societies through the traces left in the skeleton'
