Per l’occasione il Comune di Pisa, insieme a Prefettura, Provincia, Associazione nazionale Venezia Giulia e Dalmazia (ANVGD) comitato di Pisa e Associazione Fiumani italiani nel mondo, hanno organizzato un programma di iniziative che prenderà il via lunedì 9 febbraio e si concluderà sabato 14 febbraio.
La mostra. Il primo appuntamento sarà lunedì 9 febbraio alle 11.30 con l’inaugurazione della mostra “Istria, Fiume e Dalmazia: la storia, le foibe e l’esodo”, allestita nell’atrio di palazzo Gambacorti. L’esposizione, a ingresso libero, si compone di 18 pannelli informativi con immagini e testi di approfondimento, e sarà visitabile fino a sabato 14 febbraio dalle ore 07.30 alle 19.30.
Tuesday, 10 February will see celebrations for Remembrance Day 2026, an event established by the Italian Parliament on 30 March 2004 to preserve and renew the memory of the tragedy of Italians and all victims of the foibe, the exodus of Istrians, Fiumani and Dalmatians from their lands after World War II, and the more complex events on the eastern border.
For the occasion, the Municipality of Pisa, together with the Prefecture, the Province, the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia (ANVGD) committee of Pisa, and the Association of Italian Fiumani in the World, have organised a programme of initiatives that will begin on Monday, 9 February, and end on Saturday, 14 February.
The exhibition. The first event will be on Monday 9 February at 11.30 a.m. with the inauguration of the exhibition “Istria, Fiume and Dalmatia: history, foibe and exodus”, set up in the atrium of Palazzo Gambacorti. The exhibition, which is free to enter, consists of 18 information panels with images and in-depth texts, and will be open until Saturday 14 February from 7.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.
Day of Remembrance. The programme of events for Tuesday, 10 February includes the laying of a laurel wreath at 9:30 a.m. at the memorial dedicated to the victims of the foibe massacres and the Giuliano-Dalmatian exiles, located in the suburban cemetery of Pisa. This will be followed at 9:45 a.m. by Holy Mass and a commemoration of the fallen. At 11.45 a.m., a laurel wreath will be laid in Marina di Pisa, at the “Martiri delle foibe” memorial in Via Milazzo. The commemorations will continue with the laying of bouquets of flowers at the “Martiri delle foibe” roundabout (intersection of Via Lucchese and Via del Brennero) at 12.15 p.m. and at the “Norma Cossetto” roundabout (intersection of Via Cisanello and Via Maccatella) at 12.45 p.m. At 4 p.m., the tricolour bench dedicated to the commemoration of the victims will be inaugurated at the Cittadella Galileiana (Largo Spadoni, 2).
The Administration's trip with schools. On Tuesday 10 February, a delegation from the Municipality of Pisa will travel with representatives from schools on the Pisa coast to Trieste to visit the Foiba di Basovizza.
Gli spettacoli teatrali. Il Comune di Pisa propone anche due spettacoli teatrali, per tre appuntamenti totali al Teatro Verdi nella sala “Titta Ruffo”, organizzati dall’assessorato alla cultura in collaborazione con il Teatro di Pisa.
Un intreccio di narrazione e musica per raccontare la tragedia del confine orientale alla fine della Seconda guerra mondiale. Mercoledì 11 febbraio (ore 21.00) è in programma “Esuli, la forza dei sogni”, scritto e interpretato da Laura Mantovi. Giovedì 12 febbraio andrà in scena, in due appuntamenti, lo spettacolo di Laura Mantovi “Foibe, storie nella Storia”: alle 10.30, in programma un matinée rivolto in particolare alle scuole; seguirà, alle ore 21.00, la seconda messa in scena. Per tutti gli spettacoli l’ingresso sarà gratuito fino a esaurimento posti, con necessità di prenotazione sul sito www.eventbrite.it. In caso di rinuncia, si è pregati di cancellare la registrazione sul sito per consentire l’accesso ad altri spettatori.
Theatre performances. The Municipality of Pisa is also offering two theatre performances, for a total of three events at the Teatro Verdi in the “Titta Ruffo” hall, organised by the Department of Culture in collaboration with the Teatro di Pisa.
A combination of storytelling and music recounts the tragedy of the eastern border at the end of the Second World War. On Wednesday 11 February (9pm), “Esuli, la forza dei sogni” (Exiles, the power of dreams), written and performed by Laura Mantovi, is scheduled. On Thursday 12 February, Laura Mantovi's show “Foibe, storie nella Storia” (Foibe, stories in history) will be staged in two performances: at 10.30 a.m., there will be a matinee aimed specifically at schools, followed by a second performance at 9 p.m. Admission to all performances is free until full capacity is reached, but reservations are required on the website www.eventbrite.it.
