The exhibition presents the first major retrospective dedicated to the artistic work of Enrico Fornaini, bringing together works from various creative phases of his career. On display are numerous works, including portraits, still lifes, landscapes, religious subjects, and pieces related to the identity of the city of Pisa, created using a variety of artistic techniques, from fresco to oil, tempera to watercolor. The exhibition begins on the ground floor with a video dedicated to the artist and also features, on the first floor, a reconstruction of his studio. This exhibition highlights the coherence of Fornaini’s figurative work, characterized by a strong focus on drawing, light, and the observation of reality. A central element of the exhibition is the artist’s deep connection to Pisa, a city to which he dedicated numerous civic works, including medals, banners, and portraits, contributing through his art to the cultural memory of the region.
Enrico Fornaini, born in San Giuliano Terme in 1944 and who passed away in Pisa in 2024, was one of the leading figures in contemporary Tuscan figurative painting. Trained in Florence in the 1960s in the studios of Pietro Annigoni and Romano Stefanelli, he held over fifty solo exhibitions in Italy and abroad, with shows in New York, Tehran, Rome, Florence, Milan, and Siena. The University of Siena recognized him as one of the five most important contemporary European fresco painters.
