From Monday 4 March, the exhibition 'Creating by imagining. Girls and boys put science into art" hosted in the rooms of the Museo della Grafica (Municipality of Pisa, University of Pisa).

Organised by the Pisa section of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) in collaboration with the University of Pisa, the Museo della Grafica, the European Gravitational Observatory (EGO) and the National Institute of Optics (INO) of the CNR, under the patronage of the Municipality of Pisa and the Department of Physics of the University of Pisa, and with the support of the associations Frontier Detectors for Frontier Physics and Fundamental Research in Physics, the exhibition is part of a cycle of 19 exhibitions to be held in as many Italian cities as part of the 2022-2024 edition of the Art&Science across Italy project for schools.

The two-year project is organised by the INFN in collaboration with CERN in Geneva and aims to bring girls and boys closer to the world of science using the language of art.

The exhibition brings together around 80 works created by 250 students from a number of Tuscan high schools: Liceo Scientifico Filippo Buonarroti in Pisa, Liceo Classico Scientifico XXV Aprile in Pontedera, Liceo Statale Francesco Cecioni in Livorno and Liceo internazionale quadriennale in Lucca, which have been participating in the fourth edition of the Art&Science project since 2022.

The inauguration event will be held at the Museo della Grafica on Monday 4 March at 6 pm.

Each work was inspired by a scientific topic, spanning various disciplines from physics to geology, and was created following a series of seminars and meetings with researchers over the past year. The most significant works in the exhibition will be awarded prizes on 14/3/2024 during an event at the Pisa INFN Section in Largo Bruno Pontecorvo.
The award-winning works will go to make up the exhibition and the national competition, which will be held at the MANN - National Archaeological Museum of Naples from 1 to 9 May. The authors of the works deemed most significant in the national exhibition will be guests at CERN for a master's course on the relationship between art and science in September 2024.

More than 14,000 students from 190 Italian schools are taking part in the 2022-2024 edition of Art&Science Across Italy, where the project is being coordinated by researchers from INFN sections and local universities. The students have created a total of around 1300 works that will be displayed in 19 exhibitions in the cities participating in the project.

Art&Science Across Italy

Art&Science Across Italy is a two-year project aimed at male and female students in classes III, IV and V of secondary schools with the objective of involving them in the world of scientific research, combining the languages of science with art and meeting different individual aptitudes and interests.

languages of science with those of art and meeting different individual aptitudes and interests. Since the first edition to date, the project has involved over 28,000 students from all over Italy. The project comprises three phases. The first is an educational phase in which seminars, workshops and visits to museums and laboratories are organised. The second phase involves the creation by students of artistic works inspired by the scientific topics covered in the lectures. Finally, the works realised are exhibited and awarded in regional exhibitions and the most significant are collected in the national exhibition, the final event of each edition. The authors of the best works in the national competition are finally invited to participate in a master's course on the relationship between art and science at the INFN laboratories or at CERN.

Information on the exhibition: open every day from 4 to 16 March, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Free admission.
