From Thursday 16 October to Sunday 16 November 2025 the exhibition "Discovering the invisible/Alexander von Humboldt oder Die Sehnsucht nach der Ferne" will be open to visitors at the Museum of Physics Instruments-Scientific Library at the Galilean Citadel.
A day of studies and an exhibition to pay homage to Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859), German scientist, naturalist and explorer. A figure who more than others has embodied the dialogue between knowledge and a profoundly interdisciplinary vision of knowledge.
The exhibition is promoted by the Italian-German Cultural Association of Pisa and created thanks to the contribution of the Goethe-Institut of Rome, Department of Philology, Literature and Linguistics (Marina Foschi, Patrizio Malloggi, Benedetta Rosi) and Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine (Patrizia Guidi).
The exhibition traces the most important stages of von Humboldt's life and exploits through illustrated panels that evoke some of his most famous adventures, documented in his travel stories, which were an inspiration for an entire generation of scientists and writers, including Darwin and Goethe, contributing to reflection from an ecological perspective. Between South America, North America and Siberia, discovering the most majestic mountains and volcanoes, hitherto unknown rivers, the varied flora and fauna of exotic countries.
Can be visited during museum opening hours:
- Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9 am-3 pm;
- Tuesday and Thursday 9 am-5.30 pm;
