On 21 June, on the occasion of the summer solstice, the city of Pisa will participate for the first time in the European Music Festival, an international event with a rich programme of events and live performances. The Municipality of Pisa has participated, being accredited by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Sport and Youths, and has been included in the circuit of Italian cities, which will be able to benefit from a series of advantages related to the promotion of music by adhering to the Budapest Charter of Principles. The event will enliven the historic centre with a series of free concerts and performances starting at 19:00. The opening of the evening will take place in Piazza XX Settembre with the students of the “Fibonacci” middle school.
The European Music Festival in Pisa will involve some of the city's leading music schools and bands, who will take turns on stages located in Piazza XX Settembre, Argini e Margini, Piazza della Pera, the Churches of Santa Cristina and San Sepolcro, Piazza Largo Carlo Maria Clari, Teatro Nuovo, Piazza della Stazione, Piazza Garibaldi, Largo Ciro Menotti, the Gypsoteca in Piazza San Paolo all'Orto, the Cavea del Centro SMS, Piazza Berlina, Piazza dei Cavalieri and Caffè dell'Ussero.
PROGRAMME:
Piazza XX Settembre will host the main stage dedicated to pop and rock, with the official opening at 7 pm. The I.C. Fibonacci, the acoustic duo Contrariventi, the Music Academy Pisa, the Borderline Club APS, and the group I Marilyn will perform.
Argini e Margini will instead be the space dedicated to jazz, with the refined sounds of the Pisa Jazz project.
Piazza della Pera will feature the Associazione Mag Stage, with musical and artistic performances aimed at a young audience.
The Churches of Santa Cristina and San Sepolcro will host concerts of vocal and choral music with Vox Humana Ensemble, Voices in the Wind and the Giuseppe Bonamici School of Music, in a cosy and evocative setting.
Piazza Largo Carlo Maria Clari will be animated by vintage and contemporary sounds with a Warm Up Vinyl Set by DJ Liv, followed by the Vinyl DJ Set by Mr. Cheto (Soul Wine).
At the Teatro Nuovo and in Piazza della Stazione a demonstration of artistic and acrobatic gymnastics by SSD Dynamiklub.
Piazza Garibaldi will become a showcase for the promotion of young talent thanks to the collaboration with Radio Toscana, which will broadcast the event through its frequencies, and the Notti di Talento event.
Largo Ciro Menotti will offer a varied programme that ranges from music to dance: ASD Cresco Pattinaggio Maremma, ASD Passion Dance, the Giuseppe Bonamici School of Music, Proscaenium ASD, the 2 FM Trio (acoustic guitar), Thalia APS with Centro Nagual in the show Abbracci di Tango, and Ciclone Latino ASD will perform.
The Cavea of the SMS Centre, in Viale delle Piagge, will host a concert by the Società Filarmonica Pisana, the city's historic musical reality.
Piazza Berlina will be dedicated to electronic music and evening entertainment with Notti Magiche DJ Set.
Piazza dei Cavalieri, one of the city's most evocative locations, will feature Pisa Mia, the musical group H.E.R.P.E.S. and Gladys & Gentlemen, with an eclectic and engaging musical proposal.
Lastly, the Caffè dell'Ussero will host a series of musical events organised by the Giuseppe Bonamici School of Music.
TRAFFIC MODIFICATIONS:
In order to allow the event to take place, the Municipal Police has issued a series of ordinances with changes to the parking and traffic situation.
From 7.00 p.m. on 21 June 2025 until 1.00 a.m. on 22 June, on the occasion of the event, temporary traffic and parking measures will be adopted, which will mainly affect the Lungarni and some squares and streets in the historical centre. The Lungarno Pacinotti (from Piazza Carrara to Piazza Garibaldi), Lungarno Mediceo (from Piazza Garibaldi to Piazza Mazzini), Lungarno Galilei (from Vicolo Da Scorno to Piazza XX Settembre) and Lungarno Gambacorti (from Piazza XX Settembre to Via delle Belle Donne) will be closed to vehicular transit. The Ponte di Mezzo bridge will also be closed to traffic.
Parking will be prohibited in Piazza Largo Carlo Maria Clari, as well as in Piazza dei Cavalieri, in Via Dini in the section from Via Notari to Piazza dei Cavalieri, and in Via Consoli del Mare, in the section between the arm towards Piazzetta Bolelli and Piazza dei Cavalieri.
Other changes concern the road system in Via San Frediano, where at the intersection with Via Tavoleria it will be compulsory to turn right and access to Piazza dei Cavalieri will be forbidden. In Via Oberdan the pedestrian area will be suspended for the entire duration of the event, while access to the Lungarni concerned will also be forbidden from all the streets and alleys that lead into it, such as Via Torti, Via San Sepolcro, Via Franceschi, Via Mossotti, Via del Moro and Via del Tidi.
On the Fortezza bridge, a one-way traffic direction will be established in the south-north direction, from Lungarno Fibonacci to Lungarno Buozzi, while on Via Flaminio dal Borgo the direction will be reversed. The pedestrian areas in Via San Martino, in the stretch between Vicolo del Moro and Corso Italia, and in Via Toselli, in the stretch between Corso Italia and Via Garofani, will be temporarily abolished. Also on Via Toselli, in the section between Via Garofani and Via dell'Occhio, an alternating one-way street with an exit towards Lungarno Gambacorti via Facchini, Piazza Facchini and Via delle Belle Donne will be established to facilitate access to and exit from the South ZTL.
From 5.00 p.m. on 21 June until 1.00 a.m. on 22 June, or until the end of the dismantling of the equipment, parking with forced removal will also be forbidden on the Lungarni Galilei (from Vicolo Da Scorno to Piazza XX Settembre), Gambacorti (from Piazza XX Settembre to Via delle Belle Donne), Pacinotti (from Via Curtatone and Montanara to Piazza Garibaldi) and in Piazza dei Cavalieri.
