A MILLENNIUM HISTORY TO BE DISCOVERED: Cemetery and Synagogue increase visit possibilities.
A thousand-year history characterised by art, commerce, integration, culture, but also persecution and difficult times: the relationship between the Jewish community and the city of Pisa has ancient origins and is rich in stories and anecdotes all waiting to be discovered. From the tomb of the mayor Alessandro D'Ancona to unique pieces such as the 16th-century Aron ha-Kodesh, the Jewish cemetery in Piazza dei Miracoli and the Synagogue in Via Palestro are treasure troves containing objects from various eras that allow us to travel through the centuries, starting from 859, the year to which the first deed documenting the community's presence in the area dates back.
The Jewish cemetery is increasing its visiting and opening days thanks to the renewal of the agreement between CoopCulture and the Jewish Community of Pisa. Below are the new opening hours.
