On Friday 25 October 2024 at 4.30 p.m., at the Natural History Museum of the University of Pisa, the temporary exhibition ‘Unconscious Invaders. Alien species in inland waters and threats to biodiversity'.
Species introduced into environments other than their native ones, called alien species, can become ‘unwitting invaders’, causing disturbances in the ecosystems in which they settle and causing damage to native species.
The exhibition presents the theme of the invasion of alien species into the inland waters of our territory, their impact and the causes of the invasions themselves, almost always attributable to human action.
The temporary exhibition, which can be visited from 25 October 2024 to 25 January 2025, presents aquariums and terrariums with live animals, which will allow visitors to observe and learn about these species at first hand, and is enriched with explanatory panels, photographs and professional videos of the species in their environment.
The exhibition has received funding from the Pisa Foundation and is realised in collaboration with Emanuele Biggi, Mattia Nocciola and Francesco Tomasinelli, naturalists and professional photographers.
The inauguration will be held in the Museum's Conference Room and will be streamed live on the Museum's official channels (Facebook and YouTube).
Speakers will include:
Elena Bonaccorsi, director of the Natural History Museum of the University of Pisa.
Paola Nicolosi, Marco A.L. Zuffi, Emanuele Biggi and Francesco Tomasinelli, curators of the exhibition.
At the end of the presentation there will be a visit to the exhibition and the Museum will offer a small aperitif.
Admission is free while places are available.
