On June 6, 2026, when the sun will begin to descend on the Lungarno Mediceo and golden light will fall on the historic buildings, the GAMeC CentroArteModerna in Pisa will open its doors to a new journey into the city. At 6:30 pm, the 2026 edition of the exhibition PISA: Beauty, Culture, History, and Tradition, curated by Massimiliano Sbrana, will come to life: an invitation to look at Pisa with different eyes, guided by the artists who have observed, loved, and interpreted it.
Pisa is a city that is not limited to being visited: it accompanies you, talks to you, surprises you. Behind the famous Leaning Tower lies a world made up of ancient stories and contemporary vibrations, of alleys that preserve memories and of lungarni that change color at every hour of the day. The Arno flows slowly, as if it knew it was an essential part of this tale, and those who stroll along its course inevitably end up feeling part of a larger plot.
This year's exhibition brings all this together: Pisa from centuries past and the one that lives today, the city of monuments and that of small daily discoveries. The works on display –canvases, sculptures, installations– are windows open to the same soul, but seen from different perspectives. There are those who grasp its medieval quiet, some its contemporary energy, some who transform it into color, some into gesture, some into rhythm.
The artists who exhibit – Franco Banti, Fidio Bartalini, Romano Bartelloni (Bart), Alberto Berti, Giuseppe Biondi, Gino Bonfanti, Michele Bracciotti, Renzo Bussotti, Daniela Carta, Eugenio Contatore, Carlo D'Orta, Leo Filippeschi, Renzo Galardini, Giovanni Giuliani, Paolo Lapi, Marilena Luongo, Bruno Magoni, Alberto Martini, Mario Meucci, Luigi Norelli, Fernando Palagano, Maria Teresa Pannunzio, Silvia Pierucci Sapio, Senio Pratesi, Mario Ragusano, Claudio Semino, Viacheslav Shmagin, Vanni Viviani – each bring a fragment of the city, a detail, an emotion, a memory transformed into an image.
Visiting this exhibition means crossing Pisa without moving, but feeling it pulsate in every work. It's an opportunity for art lovers, of course, but also for those who want to rediscover the city with a fresh perspective, letting themselves be surprised by what they thought they knew.
The inauguration is scheduled for June 6, 2026.
The exhibition will remain open until June 17, with free admission.
Hours: Tuesday to Saturday 10 am to noon and 4 pm to 6.30 pm. Special opening: Sunday, June 7 and Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 4 pm to 6.30 pm.
