From Monday 20 April at 5.00 pm, the SMS Municipal Library will host a new instalment of the travelling exhibition dedicated to Maria Skłodowska-Curie, the two-time Nobel Prize-winning scientist, and her visits to Italy in 1911, 1918 and 1931.

Through documents, photographs, letters and scientific insights, the exhibition recounts not only her work on radioactivity, but also the connections she forged with the Italian scientific community and her relationship with our country.

The exhibition, organised by the Polish Academy of Sciences in Rome with the support of the Municipality of Pisa, will be open until 20 May during the library’s opening hours:

  • Monday–Saturday, 9.00 am–7.00 pm;
  • Sunday, 9.30 am–12.30 pm;

Free admission.

  • official welcome from the Municipality of Pisa;
  • Stefano Barlacchi - Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland in Florence and Tuscany;
  • Malgorzata Fijal - Representative of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Rome;
  • speech by Prof. Lorenzo di Bari of the University of Pisa
  • This will be followed by a screening of the short film ‘Maria Sklodowska-Curie in Italy: in search of radium’
