‘Historical exhibition of telephony in Italy: three centuries of telephony’ is the new exhibition that will be inaugurated on Wednesday 7 May at 11 a.m. in Pavilion C1 of the Cittadella Galilea (Via Nicola Pisano 12). After the inauguration there will be a philatelic cancellation by Poste Italiane.
The exhibition is curated by Marcello Cecconi - Circolo Filatelico Numismatico Iconografico Pisano.
This exhibition is a valuable opportunity to reflect on how much this object has and continues to affect our society. Visitors will be able to admire numerous period material and unpublished documents, retracing a journey among the inventions and protagonists who have marked the history of telephony. From the pioneers and the first small concessionaires (1881-1925) to technical instruments, vintage telephones, selectors, relays, historical books, and curious gadgets. Particular attention is devoted to the years following the reform, when public telephony spread thanks to coin-operated telephones and then coin-operated ones, making communications accessible to all without the need for the intermediary of switchboards.
The exhibition will be open from Thursday 8 to 30 May 2025 with free admission:
- Monday to Sunday from 9.30 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3.30-7 p.m.
The event has the patronage of the Municipality of Pisa, the Province of Pisa, Marconi Labs Coltano and the University of Pisa.
