On Friday 14 February at 5 p.m., the exhibition ‘Beyond the Horizon’, being part of the program of the "Galilean Days" (link to the event: https://www.turismo.pisa.it/en/eventi/Galilean-Days-2025) opens at the Museum of Physics Instruments - Scientific Playroom.

Six photographers between Italy and France document sightings of distant islands and mountain ranges, testing the limits of perception. The horizon, the border between the visible and invisible, is the focus of an experiment that challenges the gaze and distances. From the Tuscan heights, Fabio Longaron captures the profile of Monviso framed in the lunar disc and the Western Alps as a backdrop to the La Spezia archipelago.

The infrared photograph by Antoine Mangiavacca (aka Klape) captures the Tower of Pisa from Monte Cinto, in Corsica. The large-wavelength invisible light can solve the Monte Rosa glacier from over 400 km away.

Valerio Minato’s gaze crosses the Po Valley, discovering an unprecedented skyline of Milan and the Superga Basilica in Turin aligned with the Cervino.

From the French Riviera, Paolo Castroflorio captures the sunrise behind Capo Corso, the Apennines in the backlight of dawn and the lighthouse of Cap Ferrat facing the Paglia Orba, one of the most iconic peaks of Corsica.

Giancarlo Vignale sees the island of Gorgona from the heights of Sanremo, fixing in an image the "measure" of the earth’s curvature and atmospheric refraction.

From the island of Capraia, young Simone Fabi offers an unusual view on the Gorgona and the snow-covered Apennines.

After the institutional greetings, there will be a meeting with the photographers and the visit to the exhibition.

Will be involved:

  • Paolo Pesciatini - Councillor for Tourism of the Municipality of Pisa
  • Sergio Giudici - Director of the Museum of Physics Instruments - Ludoteca Scientifica, creator of the exhibition
  • Walter Del Pozzo - Astrophysicist, Department of Physics.
  • Paolo Macchia - Geographer, Department of Civilization and Forms of Knowledge
  • Antonietta Sanna - French Writer, Department of Philology, Literature and Linguistics.

The exhibition is open from Monday to Friday, from 9.00 to 13.00 or by appointment.
